There's so much to like about a batida de Morir soñando de chinola. It's the love child of the all around enjoyable batidas de frutas, and the beloved Dominican Morir soñando, all in one nutritious, refreshing, and tropical drink that can be had as a snack or alongside a meal.

Why we ❤️ it
If you don't know Dominican Morir soñando --a unique cold drink made with orange juice and milk-- drop everything you're doing and go make one.
Morir soñando can also be made with other citrus juices, and chinola (passionfruit, maracuya or parchita) is less-used choice for it, and blended with ice, it makes a creamy, unforgettable milkshake.
Batidas (Dominican smoothies)
Smoothies or milkshakes are very popular in the Dominican Rep. -- unsurprisingly, since we have a wealth of natively grown fruits --and they're typically served as a snack, a quick dinner or breakfast.
You can find many more Dominican batidas in our recipe collection, including this Mango and passionfruit one.

Serving suggestions
This batida de chinola goes great with any of our Dominican sandwiches for a light lunch or dinner, I'd serve it with a Sandwich de jamón y queso, or a Derretido de queso sandwich), but we can also serve it alone as an afternoon snack.
It also makes a great summer drink with a Dominican breakfast.
Top tip
- Lactose-free, vegan milkshakes: You can make this with almond milk for a vegan version, be mindful the taste will not be identical to the dairy one.
- Leftovers: It is best to consume right away, the taste changes for the worse rapidly when it's not longer ice-cold.
- Where to buy: Passionfruit, chinola, maracuyá or fruta de la pasión can be bough from Latino markets, and can also be found as frozen pulp in many supermarkets.
- Chilled ingredients: The order of preparation as set in the recipe is very important, otherwise the milk will curdle and this will not work.
About this recipe
While not a traditional Morir soñando (this is traditional made with orange juice, lime juice or bitter orange juice), no Dominican will turn down a passionfruit morir soñando, made from a fruit that grows in the DR and available everywhere.
The difference with jugo de chinola con leche is that I blended it to make thick, creamy and oh-so-refreshing.

Passion fruit is very popular in our country, typically served as Jugo de chinola, but I've also used it in other, less traditional recipes, such as this Passion fruit popsicle, and this Passion fruit cheesecake on my other blog. Don't miss them.
