Serving suggestions
Looking for a lighter Tres golpes version? Well, this air fried salami and cheese team go great with some Mangú (add a fried egg if you so choose) for an awesome weekend breakfast meal. Add some avocado slices if you want.
As any Dominican breakfast, a hot drink can't be left out, so go as simple as a Dominican café de greca, a Dominican latte (café con leche), or a creamy Chocolate con leche cocoa.
Salami frito con tostones is also a natural pair, so make some Air fryer tostones to serve with either just salami, or both salami and cheese. This would make a popular snack or dinner, and it's best with a dipping sauce like Wasakaka or Salsa rosada.
Top tips
- Servings: Paired with Mangu, this recipe serves 4, if you pair it with tostones you'll need to double the quantities to still serve 4. You may need to cook them in two batches.
- Spacing: Don't overcrowd the basket, there's need to be some space between each piece of salami so they cook evenly.
- Lining the air fryer: To air fry cheese, line the bottom of the air fryer with parchment paper so it doesn't stick to the basket.
- If the cheese melts: I tried this recipe with several different queso de freír brands, some hold better than others. One of the brands melted too much, which I solved using my mom's trick for not-so-good queso de freír: pat dry with a paper towel then dust lightly on both sides with cornstarch.
Dusting with cornstarch do change the flavor a bit, but it does work. Make sure to shake off the excess so there isn't buildup. - Turning: Turn salami and cheese midway through cooking to brown both sides.
- Substitutions: If you can't find queso de freír, paneer, halloumi and queso fresco are adequate substitutions. Be mindful that queso fresco can be a bit salty, and that some halloumi contain mint, so try to find plain halloumi.
If you can't find Dominican salami, we have a recipe to make a salami substitution at home.
About this recipe
I will be brutally honest with you, while the air fried salami turned almost as good as the fried one, in my opinion, the air fried cheese was not as good as the fried one (a bit on the dry side). However, I did like it, and I also liked that I did not have to dispose of frying oil and clean splatters.
That both are much lighter air fried than oil fried was a nice bonus.

More salami recipes
Dominican salami lends itself to a variety of dishes. Salami frito (deep fried) is probably the most popular, but my favorites are Locrio de salami (with rice) and Salami guisado (stewed), but you can find more recipes with Dominican salami in our collection.
