Desserts - Beverages

A good Dominican meal will not be complete without a dulcito (a sweet) right before 'el cafecito' that dots the i in our meals. A tropical country and a great variety of fruits make for Dominicans' taste for juices and shakes.

Recipe Morir soņando (Milk and orange juice)

Morir Soņando, "to die in a dream", literally translated, could not have a more appropriate name. This unusual mix is one of Dominicans' favorite drinks. Truly heavenly.

Before starting to cook:
Mix the milk and the sugar to taste. Put the milk in the freezer until it is very cold.

Time:
10 Mins
Difficulty: Easy
Serve: 4 people

Ingredients:
  • 2 cups orange juice
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 4 cups of evaporated milk
  • 2 1/2 cup of ice cubes

Preparation:
  1. Mix sugar and milk and stir until all the sugar has dissolved. Add the ice to the milk and stir. Slowly pour the orange juice in the milk stirring constantly. Serve immediately.

Talking 21+ version

One of my favorite ways to serve this drink is at parties, where I add either some rum or vodka and a splash of triple sec to give it a nice kick.

Can you reccommend a brand of OJ? I know this makes a big difference! I use carnation evaportated milk and that seems to work well but I have yet to find the right Orange Juice.

Nothing beats real, freshly-squeezed OJ.

I love this drink, I like to use Tropicana orange Juice high Pulp. First like to pour ice in a container or blender then add the sugar and follow by the OJ stir to make the OJ very cold the I add the mike and stir or blend. Serve and add a little cinnamon power on top. Sabrosoooooooo :
