Why we ❤️ it

And who doesn't love that? In a tropical country like ours, frozen desserts are a must for the long Dominican summers. With so many Dominican fruits available, we're spoiled for choice.

If you come across some guava, be sure to use it to make these delicious popsicles or guava ice cream.

Dominican popsicles

Paletas is what we Dominicans call what in other countries are known as popsicles, ice lollies, or pops, among other names.

We also sometimes call them helado, and they can be frozen in small glass jars. We call the latter helados de potecitos.

Guayaba (guava).
Guava popsicles (paletas de guayaba).

Guava and jugo de guayaba (guava juice).

Serving suggestions

You can use small plastic cups as molds if you don't have popsicle molds. Another option is to freeze these popsicles in small glass jars so you can eat them with a spoon.

Top tips

  • Other variations: If you want to make these popsicles with non-traditional ingredients, you can coat them with condensed milk instead of sugar, or add the juice of one lemon for a more refreshing flavor.
  • Sugar: Adding sugar is the traditional way, but you can leave it out if you prefer healthier pops.

About our recipe

We have many popsicles made from locally grown fruits, and along with Tamarind popsicles and Acerola popsicles, this is one of our most popular fruit popsicles.

Buen provecho!
