Typically, Dominicans do not make leavened bread at home. In the past, the custom was to buy it from the local baker, but some unleavened breads were made at home. Here, I share the recipes for the most common traditional Dominican breads.

Dominican sandwich recipes

Pan de agua

The most popular bread in our cuisine, it is a favorite at Dominican breakfast or dinner.

Pan de yuca dominicano

Pan de yuca is a traditional Dominican bread, although not very well known nowadays, my recipe also borrows some inspiration from the classic Panecico or bobote.

Pan de batata

Another "bread" that is also a dessert, and instead of flour it uses one of our favorite root vegetables. We also love it served with a nice cup of one of our hot drinks.

Arepa salada

The savory version of the very popular Arepa dulce or torta dominicana, the arepa salada is a dense, unleavened preparation almost always served to accompany a drink at breakfast or dinner.

How to serve Dominican bread
