A good Dominican meal will not be complete without a dulcito (a sweet) right before 'el cafecito' that dots the i in our meals. A tropical country and a great variety of fruits make for Dominicans' taste for juices and shakes.

Recipe Jalao (Coconut and honey candy)


Don't be deceived by looks. This dessert really taste better than it meets the eyes, and on top of that it is very easy to prepare.

Time: 15 minutes
Difficulty: Easy
Serve: 4 people

Before starting to cook: Oil a flat surface or cookie sheet.

Ingredients:
  • ~To cover the cookie sheet
  • 1 teaspoon of oil
    ~For candy
  • 1 cup dry ground coconut
  • 1/2 cup of honey

Preparation:
  1. Mix the all the ingredients for the candy in an iron pot and bring to a boil. Stir regularly to prevent it from burning. Allow to boil for about 3 minutes, it should have turned into a thick paste. Let cool down to room temperature. Put a tablespoon of the mixture in the palm of your hands and form balls with it. Serve at room temperature.

Hola! I have been making this recipe and I have not been able to get the dark color. Is there something I can do differently?
