Tostones de Guineo [Video+Recipe] Fried Green Banana
Try something new with this easy recipe for tostones de guineo verde (fried green banana), and serve them as a side dish or snack.

Ingredients
- 2 green bananas
- 1½ cup vegetable oil with a high smoke point, like peanut, corn or canola oil
- ⅓ teaspoon salt (or more, to taste)
Instructions
1. Peel the bananas
- Cut each banana into 8 slices and peel the bananas with a paring knife (see recipe notes).
2. Fry bananas
- In a saucepan, heat the oil over medium heat. Fry the plantains until they are light golden brown, turning them to cook evenly (about 5 minutes).Remove them from the oil (leave the oil on the heat).
3 Aplastar tostones
- Flatten the fried slices to a thickness of about ¼ inch [0.5 centimeters].You can use a tostonera press, if you have one, though I use the bottom of a coffee mug.
4. Freír de nuevo
- Fry them again until they are golden brown on both sides (about 5 minutes).
5. Serving
- Sprinkle with salt and serve.
