Batidas de Zapote, Granadillo & Níspero (Fruit Shakes): Nothing cools Dominicans in the summer like these shakes. Try them and you'll love them too!

1granadillo, or 12 nísperos, or 3 zapotes
3/4cupcane sugar, or 9 very ripe bananas (see notes)
1tablespoonof vanilla extract
2quarts[2 lt] evaporated milk, or almond milk (see notes)
Peel and chop the fruits. Mix all the ingredients in a heavy-duty blender.
These batidas (shakes) are traditionally made with cane sugar and evaporated milk, and they make for very rich drinks, but at home I prefer using bananas as sweetener -- and for added flavorNutritional information is calculated based on the nispero milkshake, and using sugar.
Lactose-free, vegan milkshakes
Use almond milk (or your prefered substitute). I hear from our readers (I haven't tried it) that coconut milk is great for this purpose.
