Avena Caliente (Oats and Milk Hot Drink) was often served with breakfast when I was a kid. Practical, simple, quick to make, and inexpensive, this is one of our favorite recipes.
– ½ cup rolled oats, [58 gr]– 4 cup water– ¼ teaspoon salt, (optional)– 4 cup milk (whole or skim), (see notes)– 2 cinnamon sticks– 6 cloves– ¼ teaspoon nutmeg (freshly-grated)– 4 tablespoons brown sugar, (or more, to taste)
