One of the reasons I mainly stick to food photography is because, although food can be a temperamental model, it does not move. At least it should not.
Try that with kids.
I shot about two dozen photos for this post, and there was only one where my handsome model wasn't covering his face with his arms, pulling off the bib, or looking like something was about to go terribly wrong. I am glad at least I got one, else you'd be treated to a photo that would be the baby equivalent of a diva meltdown.
Anyway, anyone with a kid and a camera knows this. Let's talk about this easy, quick-to-make reversible bibs free pattern.
The good thing about these bibs is that anybody who can man a sewing machine without stitching their own finger can make these. They can be made with very little fabric, require no exotic materials (hook-and-loop is not exotic, right?), and can be whipped up in no time.
The fact that they are also reversible means that, when they inevitably become stained on one side, you can still use the other in polite company.
You can download the pattern here.
1. Pin the pattern and cut the front and reverse side. Seam allowance is ¼", leave more if you wish.
2. Pin and sew the hook side of the hook-and-loop on the front fabric and the hook side on the back.
3. Join the two pieces, leaving a small opening at the bottom to turn.
4. Make little snips along curves, turn and stitch around border. Then press.
Here are other bibs and reusable bag I made for a friend. And these are the bibs. The designs for the two bibs in the back were purchased, the two in front are simply the fonts installed in my embroidery machine. The bibs close with pressure snaps. This zippered pouch, with an insanely cool lining that I neglected to photograph (shame on me!) served as the gift-wrapping for 4 newborn-sized bibs for our friends' baby boy. The lining was covered in translucent vinyl, so mommy can use the pouch to carry her things, or baby's accoutrements.
The pattern is available in 3 sizes, from newborn to 1 year old. At least it worked for the babies I made them for (you've seen them before), they seemed like normal babies to me, so I am basing my sizing on that.
As always, you are allowed to do anything with what you make from my patterns, just not sell the pattern itself (like anyone would pay for that). And if you make a bib, please send me a photo, it'll make my day.
And now back to the Rent-a-Baby Center to return the model (Nah! He's my nephew).
Aunt Clara
I adore that cupcake fabric!!
These are great, Clara, I'm all about the sewing at the moment. I just tried to knit, and lets just say I was better at it when I was 10. It's hard work photographing kids, on the one hand, there is their natural cute photogenic qualities, on the other is… Read more »
