Pilon can be bought online at ebay or any Puerto Rican Food Websites. Mofongo is traditinaly a dish from Puerto Rico. Cuba has something similar and is called Fu Fu, Dominican Rep. is Mangu. The common ingredient is the green plantain. Yasmin 777- to make a good sauce from shrimps take unpeeled shrimps and boil them. Put garlic cloves, salt to taste, parsley, few drops of Tabasco (if you want!). Once the shrimps boils take them out, peel them, put aside. Take the water strain it. Take few spoons of tomato sauce, few spoons of flour and the water from shrimps. Mix it on a sauce pan low setting until sauce gets creamy. Season it to your taste. Put shrimps on sauce, cook for a wile. Take the mofongo and place on the pilon or a round small dish. Open an space on the mofongo so you can pour the sauce in the middle. Hope you like it

Mofongo and Mangu are two different dishes

Mofongo is made differently than mangu. Stop confusing the two. Mofongo is a well known Caribbean dish, particularly in the Dominican Republic. If made right, it's great. I never had it with onions and peppers and all that. It doesn't seem that appetizing with those ingredients in it.

I made this recipe and it was great. The only problem I had was forming the mold and making it stay together. Any suggestions?
