| hello from the mountains of Maine It has been a while since I have been on this site, and when I read that it was celebrating seven years...well...where did the time go? Congrats, tías!! This is one of my favorite sites to direct students to when we do cooking projects in my classes (I teach Spanish to high school kids). Every year someone decides "morir soñando" is the easiest drink to bring to class and every year the whole class oooohs and aaaaahs about how delish it is. Simply put I really like Dominican food and have practiced several dishes to the point I think I have them "right" and I have intentions to practice several more. Having met the aunties in Real Life, (Clara and Ilana, not yet Lina) I can say that the reason this site is so great is because THEY are so great. This summer some friends brought me four pounds of Dominican coffee so having that sabor every morning makes me recall with great fondness all of my trips to DR. This coming April I will be traveling with a large group (32 others) to do a service project in Santiago. This opportunity for my students to experience Dominican culture is amazing and overwhelming at the same time. They will be assigned to come to this site to prepare themselves, culinarily!! Any other Mainers?? |
