Good morning all! I'm new.

My name is Kitty and I discovered this site because I was looking for recipes from the Dominican Republic. I'm also hoping you all can give me ideas. I'm a patient of a doctor who has helped me TREMENDOUSLY. I broke my wrist 3 years ago and I've had 4 surgeries to help me use it. When I went to see this man, I couldn't use my hand at all. He had developed a new procedure for the wrist and because of him, I have almost full use of my wrist and hand again. He's from Santo Domingo and I just wanted to make something for him that would show how special he is. I'll be seeing him Monday for another appt, (I'm having trouble again with motion) I'm scheduled for another surgery on Oct 19, but I wanted to bring him something Monday just to show him how much I appreciate him. I wanted to try the Dominican cake, but I think that is beyond me---especially with only one hand that is fully functional. I'd like something that doesn't require refrigeration, since I have to go two hours and he'll be in the office. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ANY IDEAS!!!!!

Hi kittycat. Welcome to our site! Good luck in your upcoming surgery.

If your doctor is anything like the typical Dominican then a dessert is the way to go. One dessert that is easily-prepared, widely popular, and the ingredients are easy to find is Cortadito de leche (Curddled milk fudge)

Let us know if you have more questions.

Thank you, but I need to drive 120 miles to him, so I need something I can make over the weekend and store...like cookies or cake. This does look yummy though!

The Empanaditas dulces (sweet pastry) look soooo good. You think a one handed new cook could handle these? <<drooling as I read the recipe>>

The empanaditas don't taste so nice when cold. If, as you say, you have to travel that far to see your doctor, I don't think they'll be hot when you get there.
