Question Who's the Dominican at home?

Some people come here because they want to please their Dominican spouses, some come because they are themselves Dominican wishing to learn more about their heritage, and some come simply because they like our food.

So, what's your reason for being here?

I was born and raised in the US, but both of my parents are from DR. Basically, I just want to learn more about Dominican cooking. Every time I ask my mom how to make something, she just tells me oh, add a little of this and a little of that. When I try to make it, it never comes out right. I guess I need more precise measurements. The day I found this site was a godsend! I love this site!!!

My spouse is Dominican...I also like to cook Dominican food and learn more about the culture. In fact, I probably know more about Dominican culture than my own - LOL - and that isn't much.

I am what you call an "americana mala clase" LOL I'm very mixed...or I could say mixed up! My father is Greek, my mother is Dominican and Puerto Rican...I was raised in the Dominican republic till I was 15 and then came back to the states where I was born... I missed my abuelita's cooking...so I began calling her in DR and asking her how she did certain dishes...I furiously wrote them down in a note book, but during my relocation to Arizona I lost it...and now my abuelita is too old and has alzheimers so I've joined your site to gather some of my very missed recipes...So in my heart I will always be a Dominican.
