| Since our country was colonized by Spain for more than 300 years, I can understand some words in Spanish, actually, most are already part of our own language including some Chinese, Portuguese, Indian and other languages that are incorporated in our dialects. I just dont know how to speak straight Spanish. |

| I can understand what someone is saying sometimes, but I gave up on trying to speak Spanish. I had a bad expereince where some other girls (my race) told me I didn't act (my color) because I was trying to learn Spanish, dance and was dating a Puerto Rican guy at the time. So I stopped cold turkey and didn't bother with it, but I regret that. Now, since my husband is Dominican, I wish I would have kept on learning everything. The couple of times I did speak Spanish in public to my husband, people's heads snapped around looking at me funny, I just laughed them. |

| That's pretty sad. One should always be open to learn about other cultures and people. There's not such thing as "acting your color", the color of your skin does not define you any more than the size of our ears or the shape of your teeth. I see that you have a better head on your shoulders than those busybodies. Anyways, keep at it. Spanish is a pretty language, and if your husband decides to speak to your child in Spanish and you don't learn some you'll be left out. I talk from experience, we have a similar problem at home. |

I speak spanish of course, english and french. That is the advantage of living in a bilingual country like Canada, well more specifically in Quebec. To find a job here you have to speak both languages, and to have a third one is a plus. |
