If you like trivia games then this is a contest you will enjoy. Come play trivia with us and get a chance of winning a copy of our cookbook Aunt Clara's Dominican Cookbook, courtesy of our sponsor Dominican Bookshop -The Dominican Republic in Print. The rules are simple:

This is what you have to do to win:
On September 29 we'll post 10 questions in this same thread. By October 3, 2008 you should have sent your reply to us via private message, whoever gets the most correct answers will win. If more than one people get all 10 answers right then the first one to send the message wins. The questions will be related to bakery.

And the small print:
Open only to participants who reside in the Dominican Republic, EU, US, and Canada. We reserve the right to make any changes to this contest as we see fit. Fraudulent entries will be removed. Final results are final. Void where prohibited. No purchase necessary. More stuff could be added later. Etc.

The questions:

1. What is a "turnover"?
2. What name do Dominicans give to meringue?
3. What does "to form peaks" refer to?
4. What country is considered to have the richest bakery tradition?
5. Mention one of the most famous Dominicans bakers.
6. Connect the country with the cake: tiramisu, black forrest, pumpkin pie/Cuba, United States, Spain, Germany, Italy (There are two countries too-many).
7. What makes tres leches unique?
8. Mention a cake that in which preparation any alcoholic beverage is added.
9. What is "cream of tartar", and what is its function?
10. Mention 3 icings traditionally used in cakes.

The answers:

A cake baked with fruit at the bottom of the pan, when served the fruit is on top.

2. What name do Dominicans give to meringue?
Suspiro

3. What does "to form peaks" refer to?
To beat egg whites until they are firm.

4. What country is considered to have the richest bakery tradition?
France

5. Mention one of the most famous Dominicans bakers.
Nitin, Gautreaux, Vinicio, and others.

6. Connect the country with the cake: tiramisu, black forrest, pumpkin pie/Cuba, United States, Spain, Germany, Italy (There are two countries too-many).
Tiramisu/Italy, Black Forrest/Germany, Pumpkin Pie/USA

7. What makes tres leches unique?
The cake is soaked in liquid prior to serving.

8. Mention a cake that in which preparation any alcoholic beverage is added.
Borracho, fruit cakes and others.

9. What is "cream of tartar", and what is its function?
White powder that is added to the royal icing to make it more firm.

10. Mention 3 icings traditionally used in cakes.
Butterscotch, royal icing, whipped cream and others.
