I was so happy to find the recipes for so many of our favorite foods, Especially Dominican cake. It seems to be a carefully gaurded secret!. So far I have made your recipe twice. First one was a flop, but thats my fault we forgot to add baking powder. The other problem was the icing, it didnt come out like dominican frosting at all. It tasted great, buit it was more like regular home made icing or boiled icing. I made another batch of icing by just mixing 5 egg whites and a cup of sugar and vanilla and some cream of tartar, that came out almost exactly like the fluffy suspiro Im used to. Is it necessary to make the caramel? Also can I use superfine sugar instead of powdered sugar? Also, do you recommend using cake flour? I thought it might make it fluffier.
Oh I did make another cake the next day. I remembered the baking powder this time. I also used half milk and half orange juice this time, it was a great balance of flavor. I filled mine with dulce de leche. This time everyone loved it! I recommended your site to everyone! Appreciate any help. Thanks.
