frying cheese?

I am an American, who just returned from a year in the Dominican Republic. One thing I enjoyed eating down there was the "frying cheese" (queso de freir). I wanted to make it here in the States for some friends. Does anyone know what kind of cheese would be the closest and best to fry? Thanks in advance.

frying cheese

To me, the closest one would be Tropical Frying cheese.

Possibly also halloumi (Greek) if it is available where you are, or the Indian paneer cheese.

frying cheese response

I think if you look for queso de freir from Tropical it cooks better than some! At least it has been my experience.

TROPICAL QUESO DE FIER is the best. and i have a trick instead of frying it in deep fried oil, i use a very little bit of olive oil i mean about a tbsp or 2. and i coat the slices of cheese in a light coat of corn starch. this makes them so crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. it is great

Enjoy
