Another name for guandules

Dominican favourite guandules (gandules in PR) are usually known in English as 'pigeon peas'. I recently came across them in a British supermarket, canned and labelled as 'gungo peas' - the name they go by in Jamaica - where they feature in a popular dish known as 'rice and peas' (which can also be made with kidney beans).

Interesting also to read that they originate in the East Indies and are used in Indian cooking as 'toor dal'. It also struck me that 'gungo' is very similar to the Haitian name for guandules - 'congo'.

I googled 'gungo peas' and found that guandules have their very own Wikipedia entry:
Pigeon pea - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Heh!

Apparently everything has Wiki entry. Interesting indeed. Another chance at finding this rare legume.

I found them in Canada, too, labelles as pigeon peas and congo peas. No matter which name they go by, they are delicious
