A good Dominican meal will not be complete without a dulcito (a sweet) right before 'el cafecito' that dots the i in our meals. A tropical country and a great variety of fruits make for Dominicans' taste for juices and shakes.

Recipe Chocolate de agua (Non dairy cocoa)


A simple and light beverage great for breakfast or a cold day. It is a much lighter version of regular cocoa but it is just as tasty. Perfect for breakfast or a hot drink in a cool Caribbean summer night.

Time: 15 Mins
Difficult: Easy
Serve: 4 people

Before starting to cook: No prior preparation is necessary.
  • Ingredients:
  • 6 cups of water
  • 2 cups of cocoa powder
  • Sugar
  • 4 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 teaspoon of cloves
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 pinch of nutmeg

Preparation:

  1. Mix all the ingredients adding sugar to taste. Boil for 5 minutes. Serve hot.
