A good Dominican meal will not be complete without a dulcito (a sweet) right before 'el cafecito' that dots the i in our meals. A tropical country and a great variety of fruits make for Dominicans' taste for juices and shakes.

Recipe Jalea de batata (Sweet potato pudding)


Requested by one of our readers we now add this recipe to our collection. This is an easy-to-prepare and very delicious dessert.

Time: 30 minutes
Difficulty: Easy
Serve: 4 people

Before starting to cook: No previous preparation is required.

Ingredients:
  • 1 lb of sweet potatoes
  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • 2 cups of evaporated milk
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 teaspoon of cloves
  • 1/2 cup of grated coconut (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon of salt

Preparation:
  1. Peel and boil the sweet potatoes adding the salt to it. Mash it while it is still hot. Mix with the rest of the ingredients and bring to a boil at medium temperature. Remove regularly to prevent it from sticking to the bottom. Turn it off when it thickens.
  2. Chill before serving.
