Desserts - Beverages

A good Dominican meal will not be complete without a dulcito (a sweet) right before 'el cafecito' that dots the i in our meals. A tropical country and a great variety of fruits make for Dominicans' taste for juices and shakes.

Recipe Dulce de leche (Milk cream)

Dulce de Leche is the simplest of the traditional Dominican desserts. Prepare in larger quantities than just one serving and keep in the refrigerator in sealed jars. It keeps for nearly two weeks with appropriate refrigeration.

Time: 10 Mins
Difficulty: Easy
Serve: 4 people

Before starting to cook: No prior preparation is necessary.

Ingredients:
  • 6 cups of whole milk
  • 1 cup of sugar

Preparation:
  1. Mix the milk and sugar and put in a heavy saucepan at low heat. Stir regularly to prevent sticking. When it reaches the consistency of thick cream turn off the heat and let cool. Chill before serving.

Until I saw this recipe, I thought that the dominican dulce de leche was the same as argentinian dulce de leche. I have to try this tomorrow!

You probably did not use full-cream milk. It needs fat in the milk.
