Post Pear in ginger syrup

If you are looking for a dessert that is easy, yet sophisticated, let me share this one with you. You can substitute the sugar for an equal amount of Splenda if you wish to make it lo-cal, but the syrup will never be thick.

For 4 people.

Ingredients:
4 pears
1 Tbsp of fresh ginger cut into slices
3 cinnamon sticks
1 cup of sugar

Preparation:
  1. In a deep pot put 6 cups of water to boil. When it breaks a boil add the cinnamon and sugar. Once the water acquires a slight brown color from the cinnamon add the ginger and pear. Boil for 10 minutes at very low heat, cover the pot (rotate the pears every couple of minutes so they cook uniformly).
  2. After the 10 minute have passed take the pears out of the water and put in their serving plates. Reserve. Let the remaining water boil at medium temperature until you obtain a light syrup (about 1 cup of liquid). Get rid of the cinnamon and ginger.
  3. Pour 1/4 of the syrup on each pear and serve chilled.
