Overcooking shellfish makes it tough and rubbery and may ruin its taste. Always aim for the shortest possible cooking time, this is specially important when cooking conch (lambí).

Before boiling eggs punch a tiny hole with a needle in the narrow end, that way the egg will release the hot steam that accumulates inside and makes the peel crack.

When doing fritters pay attention to the amount of oil you use. Always have enough oil to cover the fritters to half its height.

When baking try to follow the instructions on a recipe very closely and don't substitute or add new ingredients. Create your own variations once you've mastered the original.

When you go shopping for groceries don't do it with an empty stomach, otherwise many unnecessary items will end up in your shopping cart when you get to the cash register.

To wash your blender really fast just pour hot water and a few drops of dish-washing liquid and turn on at maximum speed for half a minute.
