Unwashed, or poorly washed green leaves can transmit a number of diseases. Make sure to soak the leaves in water to which you add a couple of drops of chlorine.

Besides shortening the cooking time, soaking beans overnight has another advantage: it helps eliminate some of the gas-producing toxins.

Devein fresh shrimps before cooking. To do this make a lengthwise incision on the back and pull out the intestines.

If you have more fruit than you can consume freeze it. Cut into smaller pieces (for big fruits) and you can later use it for smoothies, homemade or marmalade.

Over-cooked green peas are unappetizing. The best methods to cook them are steaming or stir-frying. They don't well boiled, so try to avoid it.

If you want to buy more tomatoes than you usually do buy some of them while still unripe. Store them at room temperature and consume them as they ripen.

Add fresh herbs to your dishes just as you are about to finish cooking. The heat still present will be enough to release the flavors while keeping the taste fresh.
