There should be a club invented for interracial couples to get together and be friends.

There's a lot of that in this community. I'd dare say the mayority are in intercultural marriages.

SL... you meant, there should be a Club for the 'increasingly minority' who are NOT in an inter-cultural relationship

By the way, he hates the way we drive in Dom Rep, too.
That is a good way to taste each other !
I always wished to do so but i could not ! but my wife know about it ans she cooked a lot things from other culture !

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who can't stand ignorant peoples comments of interracial marriage. I feel your pain! I go through it also.

My spouse is more of the type to not let other's ignorant remarks bother him. Me, on the other hand, get very hot-tempered when I hear someone make a rude or ignorant comment either about Latino people or caucasian people. I just don't have patience for stupid ignorant people. I will hear stupid comments even when we are with our own friends - other married couples - and one will say something about "white people" or "Spanish people" - I wanna jump all over them and the older I get, the less I keep quiet about things like that. My husband doesn't like to cause a scene but if the comment is insulting enough I will open my mouth and let the idiot in question know what they said was offensive.

Don't let other people discourage you. If you don't tell them whom to marry then why should they tell you. I hate nosy people.

Well I'm not married but my boyfriend is native Dominican and I was born and raise in New York. Its not much of a difference but it can get weird because there are certain things that are interpreted differently. But that's the least of my problems!! My biggest problem is that he still lives THERE.... I like what I have with him now and I hope it can continue to grow once he's here but the problem is, as many have mentioned, people are nosy and will at times indirectly say things to make me doubt the success of this relationship. My b-friend has been waiting for a visa for 5yrs and I am told it will be another 4yrs until he can get an interview date because his father has petitioned for him. There are many who say he may keep me as a safety net because I am a US citizen. My other prob. is that I am a college graduate only about the first in my family but he is a high school drop out and many say that will not work. The HS dropout thing does get in the way because he can't get a stable job and our difference comes when I tell him to get a job part-time and go back to school part-time like many do here. But he says it doesn't work like that in DR. That people don't expect you to work half the day. Which brings me to our other difference, I have been brought up to think it is fine to wait until you are atleast 26 to get married and start a family buuuuuuuuuut he gets desperate at times at says people should get together while they are young and that I should be his live-in girlfriend. But I always get him to understand my point of view.
