I have never been. My mom emigrated to the U.S. from Santo Domingo when she was five and has never been back (she's almost 70 now). We don't even have any relatives living in the DR anymore. Nevertheless, I'm proud of my Dominican roots and want to visit. Sometimes I wonder if I could get dual citizenship. If I go, what should I do on my first trip? Where should I stay? Can anyone recommend a nice, convenient, affordable hotel in Santo Domingo? What's the best way to meet people? Anybody been in a similar situation?

Its been about 8 years. I used to be a Cabin Attendant and even then I was never sent to Dominican Republic for work. I've been making excuses for years. I guess I need a push....

I was just there. Got back to the US this past Monday. I had a great time on the south east coast of the island. I still have family that like there, so it was amazing to see them.

The last time I was there was when I was 14-11 years ago . I miss it there so much. I stayed the whole summer with my family in azua, ochoa & boca canasta. Good times...sigh. Some day I plan on going there again. I just have to get my husband to get over his fear of flying. My children are DYING to go.
