Question Question about pigeon peas

Greetings!

I'm new to the forum. Please forgive me if I'm in the wrong place, or am being redundant.

I am planning to make the rice, pigeon peas and coconut this week for a party. I need a little advice.

If I am unable to find pigeon peas, what may be a suitable substitute? Also, what would be the best type of rice to use in this recipe?

Thank you so much. This website is wonderful.

Sara

Hmm...

I don't know. It won't be the same, but if I were pressed I could use red kidney beans, or fava beans.

You could also try green lentils or mung beans, but as Aunt Clara said, it won't be the same. The rice to use is long grain white ('American') rice.

In my humble opinion, nothing compares to "guandules". I prefer to use long grain white rice, or parboiled, but in Dominican I find they use more what we in Canada call "short grain", even though it's really not a lot shorter.

Indian Basmati works well, too, specially for "Moro" with red kidney beans.
