Question Hi I'm new

Hi everyone. I am trilled to have found this site. I am south american but I love the caribbean cuisine. Especially Dominican. I lived in NY for a long time and came to view Dominicanos as my Brothers and Sisters. You guys sure love to party and when it comes down to food preparation.... my hat off to you.
I live in California (Southern) now and know of NO place to obtain Dominican Cake. I have always loved this cake and would do anything to learn how to make it right. I think I can handle the actual cake but the merengue looks quite challenging. Over the summer I visited my mom in NY and tasted one that had dulce de leche as a filling. Can anyone enlighten me with a recipe/s so that I can once again, enjoy such a delicacy? Thanks amigos y amigas.
