The last word on salad From kids who call them 'yuckies', to grown ups who live strictly on raw food: the allegiance to salad is as varied as its definition. It can contain cooked ingredients, but mainly it is based on raw vegetables, and a great deal of times on leafy greens. Whatever you think of salad, the Men in White have spoken: eat your veggies and you'll live longer.

I'm grateful my daughter is a huge salad fan so no need for pleading, negotiating or bribing her to take her " five-a-day". I don't understand those who can eat a salad as a whole meal though. It has to be strictly a side dish for me, even in the summer.

I live on salads in the summer! Give me a bunch of Romaine and a bunch of cucumbers and some beets and I'm all set!
