Can the red kidney beans be from the can or do they have to be the dry ones?

It's much better to use dry ones. The canned ones contain a lot of salt already, that can mess up the results.

This will be my first time cooking this dish which I ate alot in Santo Domingo, but is there instruction on how to cook the beans?
