Decor on a string – And some Flickr favorites

In Nadia’s room there is a wall that is mostly occupied by two doors, between the doors there is a sliver of wall, one that pretty much defies any attempt at decoration. It’s pretty hard to hang anything in such narrow space without it feeling overwhelming.
I handed over some felt, safety scissors and buttons to Nadia and told her to make some flowers. When she finished we glued it to some thin rickrack and hung on that wall. I love the modern graphic look of her “flowers”, and especially the choice of colors.

Garlands are a great way to decorate, they feel festive, and you can chose from any style depending on the materials of your choice, from modern to shabby chic. And they can cost little to nothing to make, so it can be “decor on a string on a shoestring” (somebody had to say it).
These are some of my favorite garlands from Flickr.

I love the flowers she made! And what a contrast to a perfectly white wall! The colour of my children's room is soft yellow, hence I don't have conditions for heavy manipulation :)That is one great selection of garlands!

I love garlands … they're in serious danger of becoming an addiction, and I am not a collector. At all.Really gorgeous collection of images there, I really love the flowers Nadia made – the colours are great!
