Pescado guisado (Stewed fish)

Pescado Guisado is a delicious recipe that is not only healthy but also very nutritional. It is easy to prepare, every Dominican cook knows how, go ahead and add that authentic touch to your Dominican meal.

Pescado guisado (Stewed fish)

Time: 25 mins. Serves: 4

Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs of sea bass (or similar fish)
  • 2 green bell peppers
  • 1/2 cup of chopped celery
  • 1 small red onion chopped into small cubes
  • 4 plum tomatoes cut into 4 quarters
  • 2 tablespoons of oil
  • 2 tablespoons of tomato paste
  • 1/2 teaspoon of mashed garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon of oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon of ground black pepper
  • Salt

Preparation:

  1. Sprinkle the fish with a teaspoon of salt, a pinch of black pepper and a pinch of oregano.
  2. In a pot heat the oil. Sauté the fish on both sides. Add the onion, celery, tomatoes, and garlic.
  3. Add 1/2 cup of water and tomato paste, simmer over low heat for 5 minutes. Adjust salt to taste.
  4. Serve with Tostones or Arroz Blanco.

I made this today and it was delicious! I’ve been trying to find different ways to make merro that doesn’t involve frying. We had this with rice, beans and tostones! Thanks so much for posting.
