Heart of Haiti – Love and a giveaway [closed]

Heart of Haiti

Last year was channel browsing one day and came across a show with Martha Stewart visiting Haiti. Of course, I stopped and watched. This was the first time I heard about “Heart of Haiti“.  Martha, invited by Macy’s, met the artists that produce these beautiful products, and I stayed glued to the screen until the end. As soon as the show ended I was all over Macy’s website and placed an order for one of their pieces of jewelry as a gift for a friend.

These beautiful pieces of arts are made by artisans in Haiti and distributed in the US by Macy’s as a way to support the communities where these artists live, providing a decent living wage to these artisans and their families, helping them rebuilt their communities. Artisans receive 50% of the wholesale price of these items, which are made with recycled materials and sustainable wood. Haiti has a strong artisanal tradition, which is reflected in the richness of these pieces and their originality.

Did you know that in the Dominican Republic we celebrate the Day of Love and Friendship on Valentine’s? Yeah, because love comes in many forms. What a great opportunity to give your friends or loved one a beautiful gift, while helping our brothers to the East rebuild their countries and communities.

I am very grateful for Macy’s and Latina Connect for inviting me to post about this work, and would like to give one of our readers this beautiful frame and pendant. Please go to Heart of Haiti and tell me which one is your favorite piece. Your comment will serve as the entry to participate in this special giveaway. Giveaway will end Feb 14, 2013. Must be a US resident, 18 years or older to participate.

  • Make sure to add the correct email in your post. If I cannot contact you I will void your entry and choose a new winner.
  • The winner will be contacted via email with instructions. We will make reasonable attempts to contact the winner via email. Should we fail to get a reply within a week a new winner will be chosen. The winner will be emailed, and also be announced in this same post within 72 hours of this contest closing.

Macy’s and Latina Connect have provided the gifts for this giveaway. All opinions are 100% mine and have not been vetted or revised by the sponsor.

It was a hard choice, so many beautiful things. Came down to two, and Heart of Haiti Serveware, Einstein Rustic Large Bowl Web ID: 539584 won. [The other I loved was the cheapest - the river stone heart paperweight].

The tray with the painted flowers is my favorite

There’s a lot of beauty in that collection. I think the blue nesting trays are my favorites, but it was a bit of a hard choice. I also love the sets of three nesting leaf trays.

I guess I like trays…

I love this frame – it so jewel-like and precious. Unfortunately I can’t enter. Your take on Valentine’s Day is far better because it includes all the people who don’t currently have a sweetheart.

The painted coral wooden tray is lovely and typical Haitian craft. Would look great with my coral themed kitchen…to remind me of the DR. Thanks for the opportunity to win and sharing the Heart of Haiti with Macy’s!

All pieces are absolutely beautiful, but the Heart of Haiti Wood Serveware has a very simple, yet organic and handcrafted look that would look lovely on the dinner table!

The Rustic Chip and Dip is probably my favorite of them all.

I like the pendants, but the vases are pretty too (if I could be sure the kids or pets wouldn’t break them! lol)

What a beautiful idea. Thanks for doing this. I had no idea that Macy’s worked with the women in Haiti & Rwanda! My favorite are the painted pieces such as the vases and the wooden serving trays.

I really loved the simple river rock hearts. They remind me that I am a work in progress-that circumstances have to wash over me and take off all mu rough edges before I can really Love anyone unconditionally.
